Thesis: Introducing the topic and indicating the writer’s point of view. b. Argument: Explaining the argument to support the writer’s position. c. Reiteration/Conclusion: Restating the writer’s point of view / to strengthen the thesis. Example 1 Hand phone is Important Hand phone is one of electronic technology in our life. Hand phone have many function and very important for our life. Almost all people in the world have hand phone. And now, there is some reason why hand phone is important. First, hand phone can be used for communication. All people in the world know that it is the basic function of hand phone. With hand phone, we can communicate with other people although the long distance separated us. With hand phone, communication will be easy. We can talk with someone else around the world with hand phone. If we don’t want to talk with them, we can send them information through SMS or short message. SMS is the acronym of Short Message Service. In SMS, we can’t talk-on, we only send a message. Second, hand phone comes in various facilities, such as camera, music player, video player, dictionary, calculator, games, etc. With camera, we can take a lot of pictures and videos. Those pictures and videos can memories us to the romantic, sadness, and also unforgettable moments. We also take a picture and video just for fun. With hand phone, we also can listen music and watching video. With hand phone too, we can search the meaning of a word and also for calculating something. With hand phone too, we can play game. It can help us when we feel bored. When we feel bored, we can play game so we can’t be bored again. The last but not least, hand phone can be used for browsing internet. With hand phone, we can search many information easily. And if we want to browsing internet, we don’t need computer to open it. With hand phone, we can open the internet and search many information that we need easily and fast. Based on the above discussion, don’t marvels if almost all people in the world have hand phone, because hand phone is an electronic technology that very important for our life. Example 2 Smoking Is Good for Us? Before we are going to smoke, it is better to look at the fact. Thousands About 50 people die every year in Britain as a direct result of smoking. This is seven times as many as die in road accidents. Nearly a quarter of smokers die because of diseases, the caused by smoking. Ninety percent of lung cancers are the caused by smoking. If we smoke five cigarettes a day, we are six times more Likely to die of lung cancer than a non-smoker. If we smoke twenty cigarettes a day, the risk is greater nineteen. Ninetyfive percent of people who suffer of bronchitis are people who are smoking. Smokers are two and half times more Likely to die of heart disease than non-smokers. Additionally, children of smoker are more Likely to develop bronchitis and pneumonia. In one hour in the smoky room, non-smoker breathes as much as substance causing cancer as if he had fifteen cigarettes smoked. Smoking is really good for tobacco companies Because they do the make much money from the smoking habit. Smoking however is not good for everybody else. Example 3 Mobile Phones Should be Banned for Students at School Nowadays students always bring their mobile phones everywhere and anytime including to school. Somehow, mobile phones are helpful sometimes, but it also can bring bad effects for their studying at school. Firstly, mobile phones will make students not focus on their studying at school. If students bring their mobile phones, it will be no doubt if they will play their mobile phones at studying time. For example, a student plays a game in his mobile phone while studying time. He is ignoring the teacher and his obligation to study at school. Secondly, mobile phones will make students dependent. As we know that mobile phones are completed with so many things such as calculator, dictionary, and google. It is afraid if students will depend on their mobile phones, for example a student needs to answer a mathematic question. To make it easy, he uses his calculator in mobile phones. This thing will make him become dependent student because he depends his accounting skill on mobile phones calculator. Thirdly, mobile phones will make students become unsocial. When students have had their mobile phones on their hands, they will not be able to be distracted including their own friends. They will only focus on their own mobile phones without socializing with friends. Of course, it will bring bad social effect for them. Mobile phones may be helpful for students somehow, but the bad effects that they bring is many more. Finally, I personally conclude that mobile phones should be banned for students at school.
