DESIGNER: EVGENIYA DUNAEVA (@DUNAEVA.TOYS)

Hello, dear friend! Welcome to the magic amigurumi world! Make yourself comfortable in your cosy armchair, take your favourite crochet hook and let’s make some magic together! In this pattern I will tell you, how to make the cutest grandpa. I’m excited to see, how he will turn out, so please, give a credit to me as the designer of the pattern when posting the photos of your grandma and I will show your work in my stories. Also you can use the hashtag #dunaeva_grandpa , check it to see the works of other crafters for inspiration.

This pattern is copyrighted . Full or partial copying for sharing, translating it into other languages and sharing it with other people are prohibited. It is for your personal use only. The toys made according to this pattern are your property and you can use them at your own discretion.

We will crochet the grandpa in non-joining rounds without making turning chains. You have to crochet tightly to avoid holes between stitches. If you can’t crochet tightly enough, then try to use a crochet hook which is smaller size. Stuff the toy firmly (until otherwise stated), spread the stuffing material evenly. The finished toy measures 22 cm (8.6 inches) approximately in case of using th materials listed. Abbreviations: sc - single crochet MR - magic ring hdc - half double crochet dc - double crochet ch - chain sl st - slip stitch (...) - the number in brackets means the amount of stitches we should get at the end of the round

Let’s start?

TOOLS AND MATERIALS NEEDED Yarn: • Gazzal jeans 1122 (beige) • Yarnart jeans 83 (powder) • Alize cotton gold 21 (grey melange) • Gazzal jeans 1101 (white) • Yarnart jeans 68 (blue) • Alize cotton gold 02 (mustard) • Yarnart jeans 82 (green) • Yarnart jeans 70 (brown) The yarn listed can be substituted with any other yarn with similar weight (number 2 in the Standard Yarn Weight System).

• Wire for the arms wireframe • 6 mm safety eyes • Thick cardboard or plastic sheet for insoles • Crochet hook, which is appropriate for your crochet density. I use Clover 2 mm (US 4).

ASSEMBLY AND HEAD DETAILS Make two stitches in beige color above each eye. Then sew the nose. Find the nose location on the head. It should be located between the eyes, 2 stitches higher than the eyes level. We are going to sew the nose across its beige part only, inserting a needle through both nose layers. The nose base is also should be sewn. The moustache is located under the nose, insert the moustache under the pink part of the nose. Sew the moustache across the upper edge, leave the lower edge without sewing.

Fix the ears on the head with pins. They should be located between the rounds 13 and 16, skipping 7 stitches to each side of both the eyes. Sew. The hair will be located above the ears. Fix the hair on the head with pins. Lower the back part of the hair slightly, forming a slight bending (see the photo). Sew the hair across the perimeter.

Sew the cheeks (see the photo). I use the thread Alize cotton gold grey melange to embroider the eyebrows. I divide the yarn thread and use one strand folded in half . The eyebrows are located 1 stitch higher from the eyes and 1 stitch to both sides from the nose. The eyebrow length is 5 stitches. Make vertical stitches, the length of these stitches is 2 stitches, work moving from the nose.

Make the necessary number of stitches until the eyebrow becomes bushy enough. Embroider the stitches closer to each other.

17 round

16 round

the beginning of rounds 17 round: 2 sc in green color, 1 sc in mustard color, (3 sc in green color, 1 sc in mustard color)*14, 1 sc in green color (60) 18 rounds: (1 sc in green color, 3 sc in mustard color)*15 (60)

19 round: 60 sc in mustard color 20 round: 60 sc in green color 21 round: 2 sc in white color, 1 sc in green color, (3 sc in white color, 1 sc in green color)*14, 1 sc in white color (60) 22 round: (1 sc in white color, 3 sc in green color)*15 (60) 23 round: 60 sc in green color 24 round: crochet in mustard color 14 sc, (2 sc, dec)*6, 22 sc (54) 25 round: crochet in green color 54 sc 26 round: crochet in green color: 14 sc, (1 sc, dec)*6, 22 (48) 27 round: (2 sc in white color, 2 sc in green color)*12 (48) All the next rounds are crocheted in green color. 28 round: (6 sc, dec)*6 (42)

In the twenty ninth round we are going to join the arms as we crochet. 29 round: 6 sc, crochet 5 sc together with the arm (make sure the arm is correctly located), 16 sc, 5 sc together with the second arm, 10 sc (42) 30 round: 6 sc, 5 sc across the rest stitches on the arm, continue crocheting across the body 16 sc, then 5 sc across the second arm, continue crocheting across the body 10 sc (42) Now we are going to make a wireframe for the arms. Cut two pieces of wire with the length of about 20-22 cm (7.8-8.6 inches). Bend one wire end and wrap it with an adhesive tape or with a scotch tape. Insert the wire with the bent end inside of the arm.

Twist the wire ends around each other, cut the excess length. Wrap with an adhesive tape, bend and hide inside of the body. 31 round: (5 sc, dec)*6 (36) 32 round: 36 sc Fasten off the thread, cut, leaving a long thread tail for sewing.

ASSEMBLY AND DETAILS Fix the head on the body with pins. Make sure that it is symmetrically located. Sew the head with an invisible seam. Fasten off the thread. Cut, weave in the thread tail inside of the piece. In the legs’ 9th round crochet 16 dc into free front loops of stitches with the blue thread. In the body‘s 12 round crochet 60 sc into free front loops of stitches with the blue thread.

Then we are going to embroider the loops on the belt: 2 loops at the front side and 3 loops on the back side. At the first side these loops should be located approximately above the legs symmetrically to the middle of the body. At the back side embroider the loops at any points you like, make sure they are located symmetrically. Embroider with several vertical stitches in blue color. In the same way embroider the belt plaque in grey color.

SUSPENDERS Make ch60 in brown color. Fasten off the thread, cut, leaving a long thread tail. To make the back part of suspenders make chain11, join with the middle of the first piece, turn the work and crochet 11 sc across the chain. Fasten off the thread, cut, leaving a long thread tail for sewing.

Find the location for suspenders and fix them with pins. Sew the suspenders to the free edge of the trousers.

Our grandpa is finished! Thanks You for crocheting with!
