Descriptions 1. Teacher prepares a box of letter cards. (capital letters and small letters) - The teacher calls out individual to pick up one letter card and say the letter name. - Each pupil choose and hold up the appropriate letter. 2. Each pupil will be given a sheet of paper with letters written on it. Match the letter cards to the correct letter on the paper. 1. The teacher introduces sounds of letters with actions. - Pupils listen and do. - The teacher shows the action of the sound, the pupils have to say the sound. - The teacher displays letter cards, a,s,I,c,t,b,m,r in pocket chart. - The teacher points to any letters. Eg: /a/ and asks ; What does this letter say? - Student say the sound with action. 1. Pupils will be given 7 of bottles caps. - The teacher calls out each letter sound. - Pupils holds up the appropriate cap. 2. Pupils sit in pairs. Each pupil will take turn to call out each letter sound. (allow them to show it with hand gesture) The other child will show the appropriate bottle cap and put it in front. - If the child make mistake, he/she will lose her turns. 1. Each pupil will be given a set of letter cards and egg tray. 2. The teacher does demonstrations. When he says, give /is/, /an/, etc. 3. Teacher says the [CV/VC]; 4. Pupils will rearrange the letter cards to form the CV/VC in the egg tray. 5. The teacher proceeds with the CVC. - 1 mark will be awarded for correct words. - The teacher checks pupil answers 1. Teacher provides letter cards in a box. - Each pupil will pick up one word from the box. - He/She needs to say the word aloud before return to her partner. [Teacher can guide pupils to read the word] - The partner has to match it with the correct picture. - Teacher checks pupils’ answers.

Listening & Speaking [Individual] Phonological awareness through words 15-20 mins



I Hear, I Blend rain + bow cup + cake sun + light sun + flower cup + board shell + fish pea + nut grand + mother



Pupils read the words aloud.



1. Teacher shows two different coloured papers. - Say rain [first paper], bow [2nd paper] - Put these two words together to make a bigger word, [rainbow] - Teacher repeats with other words 2. Teacher moves to the segmentation activity. - Clap the word parts in; pea/nut, rain/bow etc. 3. Teacher moves to isolation activity. - Tell me the first/last word you hhear in; sunflower,…etc. - [sun/flower]

Descriptions 1. The teacher distributes big letter cards in different hula hoops. (can be more hula hoops for each other) - One pupils sound out one letter sound. - The other members hurry to put one leg into the hoop whose letter says the given letter sound. - The last one to find the correct hoop gets eliminated from the game. He/she will call out the letter sound. 2. The teacher distributes A4 paper with pictures. Teacher calls out the letter sound, pupils match the initial sound correctly. 1. Teacher introduces words, Pupils repeat. - Then, the teacher will say any words randomly. - Pupils will punch/point the rhyming words on the board/table. 2. Teacher displays a set of words on the board. - Teacher gives explanation. - Teacher says, which word has the same first sound as car? - Pupils picks the word. 1. The teacher tells a story. - Story telling session 2. The teacher asks simple questions at the end of the story. Questions : What is the cat name? Who is its friend? What does the cat do? What happen to the cat? Who helps the cat? 1. Q&A session about what have been learnt. - Give me one word that you have learnt in other station. 2. The teacher puts up song lyrics. - Pupils read the lyrics first. (The teacher helps where necessary) - The teacher sings and shows the action. - Pupils sing together.
