CHAPTER I THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND INTRODUCTION Every Teenager student wants to have a natural and glamorous look in terms of their physical appearance. They want to be more confident facing in different people But many women suffer from breakouts, and low self-confidence. Many women reason that if they look good they feel good. The Renfrew Center Foundation (2007), “Surveyed 1, 292 women experienced ‘negative feelings’ when they weren’t wearing make up! 16% reported that they felt unattractive, and 14% admitted they felt naked or as though something was missing without make up.” Self-confidence is important to every student, so they can take the courage to face and to entertain other people in their most comfortable way. Ellis (2012) states “from Acne as a teenager of fine lines in middle age, skin problems can affect your confidence and self – steem”. Students hard to gain confidence because they are the most conscious when it comes to their appearance. People embraced cosmetics as part of daily living but title thought and emphasis was allotted for its safety. There was ancient beauty regimen which caused entirely death of its users. In 18th century, the earlier prototypes of lipsticks have high lead content. Today beauty regimens are regulated by government agencies to protect the public from danger. Products identified to have harmful effects in humans are recalled from the market. Manufacturing companies shifted to the use of natural compounds scientifically proven to promote health. Cosmetic lines generate billions of dollars in retail sales. There is increasing patronage among adolescent women for these products. Marketing strategies targeted primarily this population but appealing on the beautifying effects of these products. According to Erick Erickson, this page group focuses their energy to establishing their own identity with these new role models who have “perfect” skin and facial features, they begin to subtly understand societal expectation and subconsciously conform to it. They may start to act and dress like their idols and imitate their lifestyle. Having admirable physical qualities high rating from people whether they are within or out of their circles. These are highly valued by the adolescents and strive to



maintain the favorable image of them. These are few of the innumerable reasons why adolescent resort to the use of cosmetics.



The purpose of these qualitative research mainly is to provide novel take of the effects of cosmetics in the confidence level of Senior High School Students of Baao National High School. It seeks further to identify motivations of the test subject to use these products by exploring how the regimen affect their daily living. It intends to generate rich source of subjective perception of women about beauty reactive to the quick enhancing effect of cosmetic products.



STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM The purpose of this study was to determine the Influence of cosmetic products to the confidence level of the Senior High School Students in Baao National High School. This study aims to: 1. What are the commonly use of cosmetic products of Senior High School women? 2. What are the personal reasons why the Senior High School Student use of cosmetic products? 3.Do not wearing cosmetic products make Senior High School Women not confident or otherwise Self-concious?



SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY The Result of this study will be useful to the following:



STUDENTS The students are beneficiaries of this study they would have to change to improve their physical look about this topic TEACHERS This will be help as a guardian to guide their students to be aware these factors



SCHOOLS The School faculty can monitor their students to improve their physical look and also to encourage the students to be a part of course Beauty Nail Care



RESEARCHERS Researcher can be aware because this study will lead them to achieve their studies



FUTURE RESEARCHER This study will gain knowledge and would be able to apply their learning for future purpose



SCOPE AND DELIMITATION OF THE STUDY This study will covers the perceived influence of Senior High School student on their confidence level with the use of cosmetics such as lipstick, foundation, and make-up. The participant must at utilize one or several cosmetic products at one point in their life whether independently or with the assistance of others. The age range of the respondents falls in the range of 17 to 20 years old. The number of the study participants would depend on saturation of gathered data.



DEFINITION OF TERMS



COSMETIC PRODUCTS Articles intended to be rubbed, poured, sprinkled, sprayed on, introduce into, or otherwise. Beautifying, part of cleansing attractiveness, symmetry of facial features and a healthy appearance are universal signs of physically look.



HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS The Senior High School Students will serve us as a Respondents for this study and they are the most problematic because of their looks and this are the reason why they are use cosmetic products.



INFLUENCE The researcher will know the influence of cosmetic products and self-confidence level of Senior High school students.



SELF CONFIDENCE LEVEL It is the main problem of students especially women this is the reason why they are using or wearing a makeup and cosmetic products.



SOCIAL INFLUENCES The capacity to have an effect of the character, development, or behavior of someone or something.

RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODOLOGY This chapter includes the information about on Research Design, Sampling, Population, Conducting of Data, statistical Tools. RESEARCH DESIGN The objective of this study was determined the influenced of cosmetics on the confidence level of women senior high school students. in this chapter, methods and procedures were developed which were the used to produce data about on how confidence was boosted whenever the Senior high School women use cosmetics. RESPONDENTS OF THE STUDY The participants of this study are the Senior High School Students of Baao, National High School Annex Campus, at the same time regarding to the grade 11 and grade 12 there were 30 interviewees or 15 pair of students. STATISTICAL TOOLS A set of formulated questions by the researchers was used as a research instrument to gather data. For the purpose of this research, in depth interviews were used. In depth interviews are personal and unstructured interviews, whose aim is to identify participants’ emotions, feelings, and opinions regarding a particular research subject.
