Function



The layshaft brake, which is integrated into the oil pump housing on the gearbox, is a disc brake with steel discs and friction discs in carbon material. The layshaft brake reduces the layshaft speed during upshifting. Gear changing is carried out more rapidly and there is less wear on the synchromeshes compared to gearboxes without layshaft brake. The layshaft brake is activated via a solenoid valve in valve block V112. The layshaft brake is cooled by the oil pump, which has an oil flow of 15-30 l/min, of which 1-2 l/min reach the layshaft brake housing. The brake discs are completely lubricated. The performance and service life of a layshaft brake is reduced if the temperature becomes too high.
