The following text is for questions 7 to 11 You must have been aware of the growing need to conserve our forests. One of the ways to ensure that fewer trees are cut down is by recycling waste paper. This is the reason why our Conservation Club has embarked on our Old Newspaper Collection Campaign. Perhaps you would be interested in knowing what will happen to your newspapers after they arrive at the paper recycling center. Firstly, the old newspapers are soaked in water and then put into the hydropulper. This machine, which has rotating blades, cuts the paper finely into a pulp. Next, the pulp is fed into the washer. Here, all dirt is washed off. Staples and clips are removed. The pulp is then fed into the chemical tank where bleach is added to it. This whitens the pulp. After being bleached, the pulp is passed through rollers. All excess water is now squeezed out of the pulp. This makes the drying process faster. The drying is done in a dryer. The pulp comes out of the dryer as large sheets of paper, which are rolled on spools. This recycled paper is used for many things, for example, to make cardboard boxes, egg cartons, toilet rolls, poster paper, and even gift wrapping paper. When you consider that you have no further use for your old newspapers, you will be glad to contribute to our campaign. 7. The text tells us about …. 10. Their problems did not begin until they reached Turkey and began the long overland trip through Iran, Afghanistan, Nepal, Pakistan, and Burma. The main difficulties were bad roads and, in some places, a shortage of water. The car broke down many times and on two occasions had to be towed more than a hundred miles to the nearest town. In Nepal, where the road was little more than a mountain track, the car was involved in an accident and the family had to stay 150 miles away in Katmandu for a week while the damage was repaired. The following text is for questions 19 to 23 Doctors may now be able to stop many heart attacks. An important new study reports that doctors have a new drug. This drug is called TPA. It may be better than any other heart drug. Many doctors now use a drug called streptokinase. However, this drug sometimes causes problems for patients. It can even cause bleeding in the brain. Some doctors do not use streptokinase. Streptokinase can save about 1/3 of the people with heart attacks. But TPA will save about 2/3. This means more people could be saved. One reason TPA can help more people is because of its practicality that saves time. This new drug is easier and faster to use. It will give doctors more time in hospitals. They can study the cause of the heart attack and decide the actions which should be taken more precisely. Moreover, people with heart problems can also keep some TPA at home. When a heart attack occurs, they can take some TPA right away. Then they will have time to get to hospital. This is important because people who get heart attacks usually die before they get to hospital. There is another reason why TPA is good news for people with a heart attack. According to a study, it is much safer. It does not cause other problems like streptokinase does. TPA works only on the heart. It does not have an effect on the blood or other organs or cause bleeding, like streptokinase. Despite the recent success of TPA, doctors should plan to do more studies about TPA. They need to test this new drug on many more people with heart attacks. Therefore in a few years, many doctors and hospitals will probably tart using this exciting new drug. 22.
