SAFE OPERATING PROCEDURE ELECTRIC WELDER DO NOT use this equipment unless you have been instructed in its safe use and operation and given prior permission.

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT

Ensure fume extraction unit is on before beginning welding operation. Ensure others are protected - close the UV curtain or erect UV safety screens. Ensure appropriate PPE is worn. Identify ON/OFF switch and emergency stop button (if applicable).

PRE-OPERATIONAL SAFETY CHECKS Read Operators Manual and Risk assessment. Ensure the welder complies with relevant Australian Standards. Task (e.g. Drawings, instructions, specifications etc.) is clearly understood. Ensure the work area is clean and clear of grease, oil and any other flammable materials. Ensure no slip/trip hazards are present in workspaces and walkways. Keep the welding equipment, work area and gloves dry to avoid electric shocks.

OPERATIONAL SAFETY CHECKS Keep welding leads as short as possible and coil them to minimise inductance. Ensure the electrode holder has no electrode in it before turning on the welder. Ensure current is correctly set according to electrode selection. Do not use bare hands and never wrap electrode leads around yourself. When welding is finished or interrupted, remove electrode stub from holder and switch off power source.

ENDING OPERATIONS AND CLEAN UP

Ensure the gloves, welding gun/electrode holder and work leads are in good condition.

Close the shielding gas bottle valve and regulator.

Ensure the gloves are dry and free from holes to avoid electric shocks.

Hang up electrode holder and welding cables and leave the work area in a safe, clean and tidy state.

Date of last review

Ensure the welder and fume extraction are switched off.
