Jalan Garuda Sakti Tabanan, Bali January 28, 2018 Dear David, All the best to you for the New Year! How are things going in the Land of the Rising Sun? I must say, I realy envy you getting that Tokyo gig with the company. Somehow they overlooked me on that one and I am forced to slug it out here. I heard through the breeze that business is going well there. Rumor has it that you guys are just about to close a big deal with the government for an M-750 Simulator. Great news! Good for the company and good for you. Keep up the great work! Did you hear about Margie Bronson suddenly leaving the company just before yearend? It was a bit of shock to say the least. She gave one week’s notice and was gone. Nobodyknows for sure what’s up with her, but rumors have been flying fast and furious that she went through a bit of a personal meltdown and has now gone underground to lick her wounds for a while. There could be some truth to that since her long time relationship ended recently and three months ago she was passed over for that director position that was up for grabs. I’ll keep you posted when we find out more. As for me, I am quite busy these days on the Branscombe Systems Project. We are entering Phase Two now, and that is expected to run for three years, at least. Frank Schindler is Senior Project Manager and I am Team Leader of the Embedded Systems Group. I am enjoying it so far. Whatever I’ll feel the same wayin three years, I’m not sure. By then I might be ready to join you in Japan. I’m still kicking butt in the squash court and am managing to get in two or thre matches per week. What about squash in Japan? Have you been able to play any over there? Are there even any squash courts? I suppose since you are in Tokyo, there must be some. Let me know. I have to go now and attend to familu duties. Jonathon needs some help with his homework and Angle wants me to fix something in the kitchen. You single guys traveling the world sure are lucky! Keep me posted whenever you can. The inner walls of the stomach, also called stomach lining, are bathed in about a gallon of stomach acid digestive enzymes. Gastritis occurs when the stomach lining is irritated, inflamed or infected. Usually, a person with gastritis will feel some cramps and pains in the middle or left upper belly, just under the ribs. Other symptoms include nausea and vomiting, bloating and belching. A wound in the stomach is called a gastric ulcer and it causes more pain than ordinary gastritis. Blood may appear in vomit or stool. This loss of blood may cause anemia which will weaken, tire and daze the person. When there is an inflection, there’s usually a fever. It caused to be thought that the causes of gastritis are spicy food, alcohol and lifestyle related factors like stress, along with some long-term painkillers and anti inflammation drugs like aspirin and ibuprofen, but in the early eighties, a bacterium called Helicobacterpylori was found to be responsible for most cases of gastritis and gastric ulcer. These bacteria are not killed by stomach acid because they live within the gel-like mucus membrane that protects the stomach from its own acid. A clever mechanism has also been developed to neutralize by a product of gases. These bacteria enter the body via contaminated food and water, but can still be eliminated with the right antibodies. 38. The text is about ………… A. How and when gastritis is made B. Many experts think there are three ways we store memories: first in the sensory stage, then in short-term memory, and ultimately, for some memories, in long-term memory. As there is no need for us to maintain everything in our brains, the different stages of human memory function as a sort of filter that helps protect us from the flood of information that we’re confronted with a daily basis. The creation of a memory begins with its perception. The registration of information during perception occurs in the brief sensory stages that usually lasts only a fraction of a second. It’d your sensory memory that allows a perception such as a visual pattern, a sound or a touch to linger for a brief moment after the stimulation is over. After the first flicker, the sensation is stored in short-term memory. Short-term memory has a fairly limited capacity. It can hold about seven items for no more than 20 or 30 seconds at a time. Important information is gradually transferred from short-term memory into longterm memory. The more the information is repeated or used, the more likely it is to eventually end up in long-term memory or to be “retained” . unlike sensory and short term memory, which are limited and decay rapidly, long-term memory can store unlimited amounts of information idenfinitely. People tend to more easily store material about subjects they already know about, since the information has more meaning to them and can be mentally connected to the related information that is already stored in their long-term memory. That’s why anyone who has an average memory was be able to remember a greater depth of information about one particular subject. 41. The text is about……… A. How human brain works B. How the long-term memory occurs C. How to protect our memory for being lost D. How to store information in our memory E. How to maintain everything in our brain 42. According to the text ……………….. A.
