Lesson Plan School: Liceul cu Program Sportiv Iolanda Balas Soter, Buzau Teacher: Catalina Vrinceanu Grade: 10th A Number of students:16 Subject: English Language Theme: Writing a letter of invitation Level : elementary Date: Time: 50 minutes Competency: Students are able to write in English for elementary level Language skills: speaking, reading, writing Materials: textbook, model and outline of a letter of invitation Teaching Methodology: lecture, question and answer, observation Language Aims: Students will know how to write an invitation Students will know certain words that are usually used in writing an invitation Objectives: -to write an invitation -



to use a variety of sentence openers and correct punctuation to use vocabulary appropriate to invitation writing (| dear, from, time, place,etc.)



Target Language: Inviting people Pre-activity Teacher comes in the classroom and greets the students. She says:Good morning!, How are you today?, What’s the wether like today?, Who is absent today? Aim: to check presence and to make students feel comfortable Technique: Speaking Interaction:T-Ss



Time: 2 minutes Focus on: Teacher announces the title and the objectives of the lesson Aim: to attract students’ attention on the lesson Technique: speaking Interaction: T-Ss Time: 2 minutes Warm-up Teacher asks questions such as “How do you invite people to specials events?’’(in person, by phone, in writing); ‘’What events are written invitation used for?’’(weddings, baby showers, birthday parties, surprise parties); “What information is usually included on a written invitation?”(time, date, place, occasion, what to bring) Aim: to activate students’prior knowledge Technique: speaking Interaction: T-Ss Time: 10 minutes Practice Activity 1 Students read a birthday party invitation. Teacher asks them questions such as “What is it?”(an invitation);”What is it for?”(a birthday party);’’What time is the party?’’(6.30). The teacher explains that RSPV means that you should tell the person who invited you whether you can attend the party or not. Aim: understanding the structure of an invitation and what information goes into it Technique: reading, speaking Interaction:T-Ss Time: 10 minutes Activity2 Teacher writes on the blackboard “The birthday party is at 6.30p.m.”and she asks students “What time should the guests arrive?” Students express their opinion, then the teacher explains them that in the USA arriving late may be considered impolite.



Aim:raise cultural awareness Tecnique: speaking Interaction: T-Ss Time : 5 minutes Activity 3 In groups, students write their own invitations for a birthday party, using the read invitation as an example. Aim: to encourage writing an invitation Technique: writing Interaction:T-Ss; Ss-Ss Time: 10 minutes Activity 4 A volunteer from each group reads the invitation to the class Aim: to encourage expressing the invitation orally Technique: speaking, reading Interaction: T-Ss Time: 10 minutes Activity 5 Homework: The teacher asks students to write their own birthday invitations Aim: to consolidate the new information Technique: speaking Time: 5 minutes Assessment Teacher praises the students and rewards them for their activity.
