As an affiliated company of the Mühlbauer Group we are a flexible and reliable partner for our customers - now and in the future. You get more from us than a turnkey system. We also attend to integrate our vision system in your production process - which sometimes starts long before the installation takes place. Planning and consulting are integral parts of our scope of supply, just as a camera or the vision software. We are not satisfied until our inspection systems perfectly interact with our customers’ production environments. The main purpose of our inspection systems is as simple as that: Improve your product quality at lower manufacturing costs.

Profit from our strengths to boost your success. 2

Machine vision High speed - high accuracy - high availability Modern quality standards require a high precision 100% inspection in a fastrunning process. Machine vision is the only answer.

It has not been long since vision systems were only used in laboratories for research purposes. The economical advantages of this technology soon became obvious; however, very few people from industry were able to imagine how vision systems could work in a rough production environment three shifts long, seven days a week. Susceptible hardware such as computers and cameras did not seem to be suitable for an every day use in plants and production lines. Industrial image processing starts with picture acquisition. The digital image data is transferred to a computer. Thus, at the start, the picture is nothing but a data pattern. For quality assessment often a “golden sample”, which represents the desired product quality, is stored in the system and used as a template the inspection objects are compared against by the vision system. The entire process is permanently logged for protocols and statistics. Presenting the inspection objects to the vision unit in a suitable and preferably steady way still has a decisive influence on the efficiency of the inspection system. Minor inaccuracies and dislocations can be balanced by means of image processing software.

Industrial image processing has incredibly advanced and is used in almost every modern mass production by now. Vision systems control processes and detect even smallest flaws - at full production speed. Rugged components and stable software processes make vision systems capable of being used for almost every industrial application. Furthermore, system operation no longer requires vision experts. As a consequence, machine vision has established itself as an important economic factor with growing sales figures over the last years - and there is no end of this trend in sight so far. Of course, machine vision is no magic bullet and will not solve all problems modern production processes may pose. However, our vision systems can help you to achieve optimal results in terms of product quality, production costs, and process optimization.

There is no reason to accept anything less.

3

Pro Vision What do you get out of it? Technical aspects You can run a high precision 100% inspection at full production speed, three shifts or even four shifts a day. Quality control is no longer the bottleneck in your production. You get a constant objective quality assessment which is not susceptible to the individual perception of human inspectors and is not falsified by errors due to fatigue. The inspection process is permanently tracked and logged. You can use this information for defect analysis and quick intervention as well as for analyzing your production process in order to eliminate weak points.

Practical aspects You can guarantee constant first-class product quality, which meets both esthetical and functional requirements of even demanding customers. Your products appeal to the eye and comply with various standards. Repetitive defects and even defect trends are detected in time. This information enables specific repair interventions, increases your process reliability, and reduces your reject rates. The inspection data is permanently available to you and ready to be processed by your internal data management for tracking and evaluation. You are always aware of your production quality. Protocols and statistics are valid documents giving details of your quality assurance measures and may be used for internal and external purposes, if required.

Economical aspects Higher standardization by machine vision makes your production process more transparent, reliable, and cost-efficient - no flawed products are delivered and no unnecessary rejects are produced. Machine vision is an investment on a one-time basis which reduces your labor costs considerably - every day. Only one, maximum two operators are required for a 100% inspection at full production speed. The inspection process runs fully automatic and the vision system is easy to use. Your operators can perform other tasks while the inspection system assures full quality of the lot. High end durable hardware keeps maintenance costs low and ensures the operational continuity of the inspection process anytime. Your vision systems need no holidays and take no sick leaves. Short setup times permit for a high system availability and prevent cost-intensive machine downtimes.

You save time - and time is money! 4

Range of products Vision systems for the whole range of packaging applications We can either make your systems an integral part of your machinery or provide a stand-alone inspection unit to complete your production equipment.

Caps and closures Can ends in different shapes and sizes, screw caps, and crown corks - it is a wide range of products. Our utmost versatile vision system CCI, which has been enhanced and upgraded for several years, is suitable for all these products, covering a variety of inspection fields. Another vision system, our CCI Print, performs the print inspection, utilizing the same hardware as CCI. Especially developed for the inspection of long caps is our LCI inspection unit. So almost nothing is left to be desired.

Tubes and cans We have established a broad quality assurance program for tubes, cups, aerosol cans, and similar products. Step one is inspecting the surface of undecorated shells by our SI-Cylinder, followed by the print inspection performed by our PI-Cylinder. Finally, our CTI inspects shoulder and bead of aerosol cans. Another vision system, which is rooted in the closure inspection system CCI, has especially been enhanced for the quality control of cones for aerosol cans.

Sheets and web In some cases using quality inspection at an earlier production stage may be worth considering, e.g. inspecting metal sheets before they are decorated, and conducting a print inspection before the sheets are cut or punched. This is where our vision systems SI-Sheets and PI-Sheets come into play. The modified versions SI-Web and PI-Web are best suitable for web material.

Normally, our inspection systems are integrated into our customers’ machines or handling devices; however, this is only one option. We can also provide independent inspection units including the complete handling, vision inspection, and accept/reject sorting. Some machines or handling equipment already provide enough space to receive vision inspection systems - others do not. We design our inline solutions to fit - even if space conditions are restricted. Our inspection systems are adapted and connected to your data management systems to give you full information on the work flow, the inspection process, and the results of the quality verification.

Other fields We are always ready to think outside the box What do can ends have in common with Euro Coins? On the face of it: nothing. However, when thinking twice, there could be some interesting similarities...

Sometimes we are all trapped in our ways to look upon certain things. When developing vision systems for inspecting can ends, thinking about crown corks is no big leap. However, if we allow ourselves to think a little sideways we may get exciting results. And this is what we love to do. When disregarding what a can end is used for, we have nothing but a circular disk made of metal, showing different areas of interest. And suddenly other items which have nothing in common with can ends are just the same: washers, coin blanks, and even stamped coins. Saying that a coin can be treated just like a can end would surely oversimplify the matter. However, the starting signal was given to develop a new vision system - routed in can end inspection and designed to meet new challenges: The coin inspection machine SIF 2500, a complete machine vision solution, including handling, vision, and good/bad sorting. Today, our coin inspection machine SIF 2500 supports Central Banks and Mints, reducing labor costs and scrap rates while, at the same time, increasing the output capacity.

The SIF 2500 is a smart combination of sophisticated vision technology and rugged, well designed handling machinery. Its maintainability is based upon the easy accessibility of mechanical, electric, and optical components – advantages that save time and money. The versatile coin inspection machine SIF 2500 is suitable for a variety of alloys, sizes, and shapes, incl. rings and polygons. Each coin runs through obverse inspection, reverse inspection, measurement, and sorting in a high speed process. The SIF 2500 is also capable of inspecting stamped coins. Changing from blank to coins and vice versa takes less than a minute. For special printed coins we provide our color camera version to achieve excellent detection performance down to the smallest detail of the design.

The more you try the more you know. This is not just a truism. We have always realized applications beyond our standard range of products since sometimes, standard is just not enough. And we have learnt a lot. We are always approachable and open for customer’s requests. We develop new vision and handling systems for special applications, provided that they are not too far beyond our product portfolio. It is our intention to change requirements into know-how, and our prototypes always have the potential to become serial products. Your product or your production environment is special but your are thinking about implementing a vision inspection nevertheless? Do not hesitate to contact us. From the first drawing made by our design engineers to the final setup of the vision system our experts are at your disposal. We have seen many plants and shop-floors in recent years. We have an eye for the potential problems and we have many ideas in store, how to solve them. When visiting your production site, we can bring your know-how and our expertise together to get the best possible results.
