EDUCATION Learning Objectives: After completing this unit, students are expected to be able to: 1. know the words in the reading passage related to education 2. correctly use the words in context 3. correctly answer different types of questions in the reading passage (main idea, detail, reference, inference, and vocabulary questions) 4. build sentences using the words learned in this unit



1. WARMUP



Discuss these questions with a pair. 1. What do you think is the most important subject you learn in school? Why? Answer : According to our group there are three lesson that the most important in school :  Religious education Every school at any level of education needs the religious education because it's very useful for everyday life so that students can always behave well.  Indonesian education Because interests of indonesian subjects are very broad, including the spoken language of the writing and your character is your daily behavior as a good and correct indonesian nation and the desire to educate the nation's life. So don't underestimate this lesson 



English education



Because english is the international language which is currently useful for reaching many people in this world for example for business and other interest, especially at times this modern english proficiency is needed to apply for job.

2. What are schools like in your place? How are they different from schools in otherplaces? Answer : I think my school is the same as other schools. but there are some things that might differentiate it from others such as religious activities, every morning we do dhuha prayers and read the Al-Qur'an together and at my school also every once in two week there is a joint exercise activity. if in terms of buildings and environment I think the same as other schools. 3. Do you prefer to study indoor or outdoor?Why? Answer : I prefer to study outdoor because studying outside the room can make us more relaxed, fell wider and don't fell stressed. If we choose the right place to study, beside that if we study outdoors we can take example circumstances around us and our thinking will be expand. 4. If you could create your dream (ideal) school, what would it belike? Answer : My dream school is a clean and comfortable school, school that prioritize interests students, students freedom to speak up their opinions. And also provide opportunities for students develop their talents and abilities. 2. PRE-READING

It was first set up in 1898 to control hunting and to protect the wildlife living there. Today, it is home to an incredible variety of species, including more than 500 types of birds and about 150 different types of mammals. Among these are deer-like (1) antelope (like the steenbok and impala), (2) hyena, and a wild pig known as a (3) warthog. 2

Both the park and the school are home to wild animals such as giraffes, impalas, and warthogs. Students at the school study the same subjects as other students in South Africa. But at Southern Cross, the staff and students go out into the wild tolearn.

In one lesson, students apply the principles of mathematics to study of local wildlife. Younger students count how many kinds of animals drank at the nearby water troughs during the night. Older students measure the amount of water the animals drank, and calculate how much water the animals will need over weeks ormonths. In language classes, a common topic is conservation. In one recent debate, students discussed an important question: should people give water to the wild animals during a drought? Another project might consist of finding out how an animaldied. The director of the school is Ant de Boer. His aim is for students to learn the importance of caring for the environment. De Boer says, “When they leave school, we want them to be champions of the natural environment.” As the school motto says, Southern Cross aims to be a “School for the Planet.”
