HOW TO REDUCE THE DANGER OF SMOKING The Departement of Health, Education and Welfare (HEW) has outlined some steps to take some of the danger out of smoking for those people who are unable to quit smoking outright. First, choose a cigarette with less tar and nicotine to reduce your intake of these pollutants. Second, don’t smoke your

5

cigarette all the way down. Smoke halfway, and you will inhale only about about 40 percent of the total tar and nicotine. Remember, 60 percent of these substances* is contained in the last half of the cigarette. Third, take fewer draws on each cigarette – that is, reduce the number of puffs on each cigarette. This will cut down on your smoking. Fourth, reduce your inhaling.

10

Don’t open your lungs by inhaling deeply. Tke short, shallow puffs. Fifth, smoke fewer cigarettes each day. This may be the most difficult step of all.

38

However, just follow these directions: 1. Pick a time of day to start, and don’t smoke before that time. 2. Don’t think of it as cutting down: think of it as postponing. 15

3.Carry your cigarettes in a different pocket, or put them in a different place so that you can’t reach for them automatically. After that think about the terrible diseases you are opening yourself up to each time you smoke a cigarette. Finally if you followeach og these steps without cheating, you should be able to at leastcontrol the number of cigarettes you smoke daily. Who knows, this might be the beginning of the end – of your smoking, that is. (taken from: Spiegel, D. L. (1981). Six alternatives to the directed reading activity. How to Make a Kite from Bamboo Kites are one of the favorite toys ranging from children, teenagers to adults. Not only in Indonesia, kite toys are also played in neighboring countries. In fact, kites are often used as festivals. The popularity of kites due to the unique manufacturing process and does not cost much and more uniquely, kites use wind gusts to be able to play. With the times, kites have different shapes but still use the same material there are only a few additions such as certain components that can make the kite look More beautiful. At first, kites have a normal or standard shape such as the build shape of a kite. Although, it has a simple shape, the manufacture of kites is rather complicated because it requires careful calculations, so that when flown, it is not biased or Javanese. Not “spread”. Here is the process of making a simple kite from bamboo that you can try yourself at home.

Materials needed

1. Prepare two thin bamboo blades with a width of 1 cm. The length of bamboo can be adjusted to the size of the kite you want to make. If you are still confused, you can prepare 1 thin bamboo blade measuring 40 cm and 1 thin bamboo blade measuring 60 cm. 2. Special paper to make kites or can be called paper minyang kite. The size can be what you want. 3. Thread or rope to be used to tie both bamboo blades 4. A rather thick roll tape 5. Measuring instrument or meter 6. Scissors and adhesive or insulation

Steps in Making Kites 38

1. The two bamboo blades are placed in a crossed position however, not crossing the tipat in the middle. Short bamboo blades are placed on the somewhat upper part of the long bamboo blades. 2. So that bamboo is strong and not easy to move around, tie the two bamboo on the crossed parts using ropes. Tight tie. 3. Tie the thread at the end of the end of the bamboo so that it will form like a diamond. 4. After completion or after the frame is finished, then you place the kite frame on the paper that you have provided. (oil paper) 5. Draw the pattern of the shape of the kite frame by using markers on oil paper to have a suitable size and easily formed. 6. Give a distance of 2 to 2.5 cm from the edge line on the oil paper (do not use the exact size on the frame) 7. Then cut the part that has been drawn using a marker by forming a kite frame pattern. 8. The width of the rest of the paper that you exceed, folded first through the thread until the kite is formed from the paper or until the entire frame of the kite is covered by oil paper. 9. To be stronger, you add insulation to the paper part attached to the kite frame. 10. When finished, on the part of the meeting of the bamboo frame in a cross-section, make a hole on both sides of the paper, namely to the right and left of the paper. 11. Insert the strings in the hole, then tie the strings to the kite frame. 12. Below the midpoint of about 6-8 cm, make a hole. In this section, you can adjust the size of the kite you make. 13. Next, you can hook the thread from the midpoint to the hole you made below the midpoint. 14. Before being flown, balance the kite so that when flying does not"spread". In addition to making the kite you make attractive and balanced, you can use a thick rolled ribbon to make the kite tail. The trick is easy, namely cut the roll tape in accordance with the shape of the tail you like and then design it on the bottom of the kite. Giving tails on kites is useful so that the kite can fly in balance. 38

The threads used for kites vary greatly. Before you buy yarn, you should consider the model and size of the kite you want to make. Inappropriate threads will cause the kite thread to break when the kite is flown. Threads that are too large make it difficult for kites to fly high because of the heavy thread load. Estimates of the time used to make kites vary greatly based on the level of difficulty. Normally in making kites can take three to four hours. Regulating the balance on the kite is one of the factors that cause the length of kite making. That's a review of how to make a kite from bamboo that you can practice at home. If you feel less satisfied with the kites sold in stores, you can make your own kite according to the shape and size you want. Good luck. Link vidio https://youtu.be/DWcP9IWxWis
