§1 INTRODUCTION • This service manual is for the OPHTHALMIC YAG LASER SYSTEM YC-1800. • Be sure to use this manual after understanding the operator’s manual for the OPHTHALMIC YAG LASER SYSTEM YC-1800 thoroughly. • Refer to the OPHTHALMIC YAG LASER SYSTEM YC-1800 Operator’s Manual and Parts List. • Specifications are subject to change without notice for improvement. Refer to the Technical Bulletin for important changes. • In case the system can not be repaired according to the procedures described in this manual, please tell us the serial number of the system and details of the symptom or symptoms.

§2 CAUTIONS 2.1 General • Servicing should be performed by NIDEK service persons or other qualified personnel. • Perform all servicing according to the procedures described in this manual. Failure to do so may cause unexpected accident or malfunction. • Be sure to turn the power off during servicing unless there is an instruction to turn it on.

2.2 During Service • Take countermeasures against static electricity before the service. • If malfunction occurs, check the symptom and turn the power off. • Do not lose or drop removed parts inside the YC-1800. Prepare a case beforehand to store loose parts. • Take care not to bump the YC-1800. • Use suitable tools to screw or unscrew the screws. • Apply a threadlocking adhesive to the screws which have been loosened and tightened again. • If the YC-1800 produces smoke or strange odors, immediately turn off the system and disconnect the electrical plug from the outlet. Usage of the system under such abnormal conditions may cause fire or electric shock. • Do not perform servicing with wet hands. Doing so could cause electric shock or malfunction. • In §3 TROUBLESHOOTING, when checking a break in a cable, also check the following according to the wiring diagram and connector cable. 1. Proper connections and crimping 2. Proper contact by connecting and disconnecting connectors 3. Proper soldering * Do not yank the cables with excessive force. Doing so could cause breakage.

2.3 During Laser Emission • Never emit the laser beam directly on personnel or things.

2-1

XYC16*RDA001A/E

2.4 Handling the Laser Head • Never disassemble or repair the laser head. Return the laser head to NIDEK if the repair is necessary. NIDEK will not be responsible for accidents or malfunction cause by the YC-1800 repaired by other than NIDEK.

2.5 Adjustment • Adjust the YC-1800 on a vibration free, level, and stable surface. Failure to do so could prevent adjustment from being performed correctly. • Do not use adjustment jigs for other than the intended purpose. • Since the Nd:YAG laser used in the YC-1800 is an invisible infrared ray, improper operation may cause the hazardous exposure to radiation. • Never face to the laser beam aperture in the laser beam path. • Wear the safety goggles specified for the Nd:YAG laser. • Never gaze directly the Nd:YAG laser beam even when wearing the safety goggles. • Do not touch optical parts such as mirror or lens with bare hands. • Never expose the laser beam to your skin. • Take care not to receive electric shock when opening the cover to check or repair the electrical system. • The YAG laser uses the high voltage.

2.6 Using the Energy Meter for the YAG laser • Depending on the energy meter to be used, the necessity of the dispersion lens, which is attached to the objective lens at the time of energy measurement, is varied. Refer to the table below when measuring the energy. Energy meter

MODEL PHDX50

Unnecessary

• The detector of the energy meter may be damaged if the excessive energy density is applied to the photoreceptor of the detector. Maximize the spot size of the aiming beam on the photoreceptor as possible so that the YAG laser beam never come into focus on the photoreceptor.
