LIVING IN THE POWER OF THE HOLY SPIRIT GALATIANS 5:16 (NIV) So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. (NLT) So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won't be doing what your sinful nature craves. 1 JOHN 4:4 (NIV) You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. A. INTRODUCTION: Jesus Christ knew that Christians will struggle and will face troubles while we are still in this world ruled by the enemy (John 12:31). Jesus even warned us about the terrible times in the last days: 2 Timothy 3:1-5 But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without selfcontrol, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God--having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people. 1. Christians still struggle with sin o Romans 7:15-21 For I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate. Now if I do what I do not want, I agree with the law, that it is good. So now it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells within me. For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh. For I have the desire to do what is right, but not the ability to carry it out. For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I keep on doing. Now if I do what I do not want, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells within me. So I find it to be a law that when I want to do right, evil lies close at hand. For I delight in the law of God, in my inner being, but I see in my members another law waging war against the law of my mind and making me captive to the law of sin that dwells in my members. 24 Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? 2. Christians struggle is not against flesh and blood o EPHESIANS 6:12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 3. Christians struggle in growing and taking part in the plan of God? Why? o 2 THESS 2:11 We hear that some among you are idle and disruptive. They are not busy; they are busybodies. o 4. Christians will face trouble o JOHN 16:33 "I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world."

Key Notes: This is part of a Christian Life because we are followers / believers of the Lord Jesus Christ. By saying this, Jesus Christ reminds us: John15:20-23 Remember what I told you: 'A servant is not greater than his master.' If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also. If they obeyed my teaching, they will obey yours also. They will treat you this way because of my name, for they do not know the one who sent me. If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not be guilty of sin; but now they have no excuse for their sin. Whoever hates me hates my Father as well. But Jesus Christ did not call us to follow Him and carry our own cross just to leave us helpless, powerless, futile, incapable, discouraged, worthless, unsuccessful, defeated, and abandoned – which the enemy is injecting in our minds. Instead, God made a promise to those who believe and follow in Jesus, and Jesus Himself fulfilled this promise, by sending the Holy Spirit to us that we may be able to overcome the world and live victoriously. Luke 24:49 I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high." John 15:26-27 "When the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you from the Father--the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father--he will testify about me. And you also must testify, for you have been with me from the beginning.

EPHESIANS 1:13-14 And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God's possession--to the praise of his glory. c. We receive the Holy Spirit by simply receiving the Lord Jesus Christ as our Savior (John3:5-16) 5. WHEN DO WE RECEIVE THE HOLY SPIRIT? WHAT IS THE MANIFESTSATION OF THE BEING FILLED WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT? a. The Holy Spirit becomes our permanent possession the moment we believe. b. Further, the Holy Spirit could not be the “seal of salvation” (Ephesians 1:13-14) if He is not received at the moment of salvation. Many scriptures make it abundantly clear that our salvation is secured the moment we receive Christ as Savior. c. John 14:12 Jesus said “Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.” d. GALATIANS 5:16 (NIV) So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.

1 JOHN 4:4 (NIV) You,dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. John 16:1 "All this I have told you so that you will not fall away. James 4:7 Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Luke 10:19 I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you. Matthew 28:18 Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. In this last days, many will fall away but we have God and His promise as Jude 1:24-25 says “To him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy-- to the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore! Amen.” D. CONCLUSION: The Creator has a specific plan for each person’s life, and He’s arranged our talents, abilities, and circumstances to fit with these individualized goals (Eph. 2:10). When we connect with our God-given purpose, we feel deep satisfaction and great joy. However, it’s important to understand that we can’t achieve the Lord’s goals on our own; only by His strength and direction are we able to succeed. In John 16:33, Jesus warned us that trouble is an integral part of life in this world. But easily forgetting how weak we are, we tend to take on challenges in our own strength and resourcefulness. Human nature wants to use its own power to tackle life singlehandedly and then take credit. So when temptations, trials, criticism, gossip, and Persecution assail, many of us have the tendency to go into high gear and try all the harder. For a while, life may actually seem good this way. But in the long run, self-reliance creates a mess. It also interferes with the fulfillment of God’s purposes. The truth is, we sometimes have to experience failure in order to realize our complete dependence upon God. He lovingly breaks our pride by showing us that we cannot live fully without following the Spirit’s guidance. Have you surrendered yet to the Holy Spirit’s control? Acknowledge your weakness and recognize His power, omniscience, and wisdom. The Lord doesn't call you to live the Christian life, which is a human impossibility. Rather, He wants you to yield control and let Him live His life through you.
