LSI LASTEM X-Log – Quick Guide

1. Introduction This document is a short introduction to the first use of the X-Log data logger. We suggest you to download the latest version of this guide on X-Log section on the LSI LASTEM web site.

2. What’s inside X-LOG package   

N.1 X-LOG unit N.1 Ethernet cable N.1 USB key

3. First start-up Before connecting data logger to sensors verify that the power switch is on the "0" position (off). Connect the data logger power using the proper connector, utilizing a battery (12 Vdc, min 1 Ah) or an external 230 Vac/12 Vdc power supply according to the following method:  

If you are using only the battery or only the external power supply, connect the terminals to inputs +12Batt and Gnd. If you are using an external power supply and a battery, connect the battery terminals to the +12Batt and Gnd inputs and connect the power supply to the InPS and Gnd inputs. In this configuration the battery is automatically recharged (max 40 Ah) by the data logger, therefore the power supply must have an output of at least 13.5 Vdc.

Move the power switch to the "1" position (On). A display message will appear with some machine start up and diagnostics information. The first message represents the product serial number. Wait about 90 seconds until the instant data appear in the following format:

* To decode see X-LOG user guide. The readings are shown for about 2 seconds each, passing from one reading to the next based in the machine configuration.

4. Interface with the datalogger The data logger can be connected to a PC via the 10/100Mbit/s LAN interface. X-Log comes from the factory with a pre-configured IP address necessary for connection; change it according to your LAN configuration. LAN Interface IP: 192.168.1.110

Subnet mask:

255.255.255.0

To connect with the machine you will need to utilize an Ethernet cross cable following the procedure below:

   

Turn on the data logger. Connect the cable to your computer's LAN port. Connect the other end of the cable to the X-Log LAN port. Turn on the computer and set an IP address for your network card which is congruent with the data logger's address. For example 192.168.1.255 and subnet mask 255.255.255.0.

At this point the connection between the computer and the X-Log has been established and you can proceed to the configuration page or the data viewing page as explained in the next paragraph. The main configuration procedure of X-Log can be done only using a web browser. WARNING To correctly view the pages on the PC browser, enable JavaScript and the option to search for the most recent version of the cached pages in the tools or options menu of your browser. With the browser open, enter the IP address of the datalogger in the address bar: http://192.168.1.110 (factory default address) and wait for the first page to open which allows the user to choose between instant data view or configuration (password protected).

5. Sensors connection There are two interfaces type from sensors to X-Log: a) Using XLA010 interface connector. b) Using XLA009-015-017 sensor protection boards. Each sensors type needs a specific configuration and has to be connected to the X-Log terminals in accordance to the electrical signals it generates. The next section gives some connection instruction for the most used LSI LASTEM sensors.

6. Get data from X-LOG X-LOG dataloggers series sample, process and store/transmit data according to the configuration settings. X-Log stores data files in text format ("*.txt") inside an internal back-up area of about 32 MB. Besides this area, files are stored in an industrial type external USB storage device connected to one of the two USB ports of the machine; X-Log supports 512 MB to 4 GB USB memory sticks. If a GPRS communication terminal is connected to the X-LOG, a copy of the data is sent via FTP protocol to a predisposed internet area. In other words, there are always at least 2 or 3 (in case of GPRS) areas where all of the historical data acquired can be found. LSI LASTEM provides a program (compatible with Internet Explorer only), which allows the historical data files to be downloaded and converted from ASCII into Excel® format for immediate processing and interpretation. Besides the conversion, this application allows a backup to be made of the data, dividing it by switchboard ID, year and month. This application, called X-COM, can be downloaded using LSI WebInstaller program from our web site http://www.lsilastem.com/Download-Software.aspx

7. X-Storage X-Storage is a web service provided by LSI LASTEM for X-Log users. There is no cost for the service, only a charge for its configuration. X-Storage received the data measured by X-Log whenever one of the three FTP sites programmed (read part 3.3 of the X-Log user’s manual) is programmed as LSI FTP site. X-Storage web software features:   

Current weather station data display in a real-time on the computer. Production of charts using archived weather data on an hourly, daily, weekly, monthly basis. Data collection from X-Log data logger on the computer in Excel format.

An example of X-Storage web site is http://www-lsi-lastem-xstorage.com/LSI-LASTEM. In order to activate the X-Storage service, LSI LASTEM requires the activation form at §7.1 correctly compiled on all its parts.
